ADMINISTRATION OF ESTATES
Our charges are based on a combination of the time spent dealing with the matter, including a care and conduct element, and the value of the estate. Time spent will include meetings with you and perhaps others, considering, preparing and working on papers, correspondence and making and receiving telephone calls. Routine letters and telephone calls made and received will be charged in units of one tenth of an hour, and this will apply to virtually all of the correspondence and telephone attendances undertaken in relation to this matter. However the right is reserved to charge longer letters and telephone calls on a time basis.
A “value” element will also be applied in accordance with recommended guidelines, which will represent one half percent of the value of any real property comprised in the estate and one percent of any personal property comprised in the estate. These percentages are raised where one of the members of this firm is appointed Executor to three quarters percent and one and a half percent respectively in order to reflect the responsibility involved in the Executorship, although in some cases the extent of correspondence and telephone calls is usually somewhat lower.
It is difficult for us to estimate our total charges in relation to the estate, but experience has shown that, on an average estate, our total charges are likely to be between two percent and three percent of the estate. This percentage estimate is given as a guideline only, and will not accurately reflect the charges in a small or a particularly large estate.
DIVORCE AND FINANCIAL REMEDY
Our legal fees for dealing with an Application for Divorce begin at £250 + VAT per hour. If an application is contested or proves to be unduly complex, troublesome or if the matter should become protracted, the legal fees will likely increase.
Financial Ancillary Relief is separate to divorce proceedings though it is often advised to settle the marital finances at the time of divorce. As no two cases are the same, our charges are based on the time spent dealing with the matter. Time spent will include meetings with you, liaising with the other side of the case, liaising with Council, court appearances, drafting, considering, preparing and working on papers, correspondence and making and receiving telephone calls. The costs can vary widely from a straightforward case where an agreement can be reached to more complex cases, where an agreement cannot be reached and/or if the matter proceeds to Court.

Estimated time for matters
It is difficult to give a precise estimate as to how long matters take due to the involvement of third parties, other Solicitors and factors outside of our control and some matters may proceed quicker than others but we would estimate the approximate time frame would be as follows:

Wills: 4 – 8 weeks
Probate: 6 – 12 months
